Bible Reading for this Week

Please spend time reading through Psalms 1-14 in preparation for the next sermon on      Sunday, Aug. 12th. Letter of Jeremiah is an additional suggested reading to prepare for    the sermon on August 19th.  Links to Letter of Jeremiah and other apocryphal readings may be found at hopeinchristchurch.org under “pastor”, then “pastor’s blog.”

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Mike & Geralyn C: Josiah, Abigail, Bethany, Aleya, Emma, Nathanael, Alexander
  •  Sissy D
  • Chuck D
  • Dave & Lisa D
  •  Denise D

American Pastor Andrew Brunson in Turkey: On July 18th, there was a court hearing for American pastor Andrew Brunson in Turkey. This was the third hearing, following hearings on April 16 and May 7. Despite hopes for Andrew’s release, the judge had ordered that he remain imprisoned as the trial process continued. A fourth hearing for Andrew’s case has been scheduled for 12 October 2018. You may remember the prayer request in the July 22nd bulletin, asking the Lord to release Andrew soon, despite the judge’s decision.  Andrew was released from prison due to health concerns and is now under house arrest as of July 25th.

Christians in Turkey are thankful for this decision, but request prayer that:

  • Andrew will soon be acquitted on all charges
  • Andrew will be able to relax and recover, physically and emotionally, from his time of imprisonment
  • Those responsible for Andrew’s arrest and detention will repent and act truthfully

CRC (Resonate Global Mission) Nicaragua—Pray for Resonate missionaries and partners and the people they have been serving in the midst of civil unrest in Nicaragua. Pray for the families of all who have been injured or killed, and ask God to provide relief and peace for everyone affected by strikes, roadblocks, and closures.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Culture of godly leadership (Hebrews 13:7)

  • Our leaders at all levels serve with character, competence, and conviction.
  • A spirit of collegiality pervades, with our people trusting our leaders and our leaders trusting our people.
  • We continually identify and train godly leaders for all dimensions of our ministry.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Children’s Sunday School: Calling all past, present, and future Sunday school teachers! It’s time to pick your spots for teaching our amazing kids in the two classes we have for the 2018/2019 church year. Sunday school starts September 9th, and ends June 2. You will find the sign up sheet in the August edition of the Heartbeat and posted in the foyer near the credenza. You have the option of signing up for a consecutive three week unit or six week unit. Please look closely at the dates listed in the units, as there are some breaks in the dates due to holidays or events.

Kids’ Craft Camp: Darlys will have Kids’ Craft Camp again this summer to share some fun craft time with friends before school starts. Crafters from first-grade age through adult are welcome to come Monday and Tuesday, August 20 and 21 to the foyer from 10 AM to 4 PM. A registration flyer is available in the foyer on the shelf by the bulletins. Call or email Darlys to register or if you have questions.

August Heartbeat Newsletter:  The August edition of “The Heartbeat” is available online, or in the foyer. Did you pick up a copy last Sunday? If you did, this paragraph was accidentally missing from the end of the article Getting to Know our Church Family: Donna Van Beek has attended our church for 65 years. We’re blessed that she has been with our church so many years and participates in so many activities. She enjoys her friendships and the Bible study group. Studying “The Story” has been very enlightening and she plans to resume that in the fall. Thank you Donna, for sharing your story with us!
