PRAYERS
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
Georgi & Paulino, Virginia F. , Karen F., Anne G, Darryl & Gloria, Dan G.
Pray for MINDANAO, Philippines – Following the killing of a pastor on the Island of Mindanao, church leaders in the Philippines decried an alleged increase in attacks on Christian human rights defenders since the start of the Rodrigo Duterte administration.
Violence against Christians in Bihar state, in India’s northeast bordering Nepal and Bangladesh, has increased in the past two years, sources said. Hopes for forming a Christian response center with help from legal aid and relief organizations has yet to be realized.
Iranian Christians request prayer for those who recently attended court hearings and for those who are still in detention waiting to be summoned to court. Please pray that:
a. The name of Jesus Christ will be honored in the court hearings and the Gospel faithfully represented
b. God will encourage those who have attended or will be attending court hearings and know His peace and strength without fear or anxiety.
c. The judges will judge righteously as accountable to God and remember the commitment of Iran to uphold religious freedom.
d. That they will know God’s encouragement in the face of the prison sentence and that an appeal will be successfully lodged.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Church Picnic/Potluck: Hospitality Team is planning a church picnic/potluck for Sept. 8 at Birch Bay State Park following the morning service; however, if the weather is not suitable the potluck will be at church. This will take place of the usual 5th Sunday potluck. The state park parking pass is required, which may be purchased at the park for a fee of $10 (cash or check). Carpooling is suggested and we hope that everyone will join us.
Grab a coffee and a cookie after the morning service today and join us in the sanctuary as Elizabeth R. will be sharing about her trip to Honduras.
Safe Church Policy Training: Training will be Sept. 18 at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend, but we especially need to see those who serve as a leader for a HICC ministry: council members, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, Friendship Mentors, GEMS, small group leaders, transportation providers, etc. This time will be used to go over our Safe Church Policy, answer questions, and sign documents required for the yearly background checks.
Holiday Bazaar: Terry VW would like to put together a team to discuss and possibly plan this year’s Holiday Bazaar. She is looking for input as to whether or not we should host a bazaar or is it time to walk away from it. Please contact Terry to volunteer to be on a team or to express your thoughts about the bazaar.
Thank you for all the well wishes, cards and other expressions of love we received while celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Our church family is amazing and has sustained us all these years. Herm & Ali
HIC Craft Camp: This year crafting will be divided into two groups: Mon. & Tues. Aug 19/20 from 10-4, grades 7-12 and beyond; Wedn and Thurs August 21/22 from 10-4 for grades 1-6. Join the crafting for fun activities and time with friends. Bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks are provided. Adult helpers are welcome to join us. Call or email Darlys to reserve your spot. MISSIONAL MARKER
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:
Centrality of the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)
- We believe that the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct.
- Our preaching and teaching in all settings reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity.
- Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.
