PRAYERS
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
- Jerry & Faye H
- Junior J
- Jay & Avis K
- Marilyn K
- Wilma K
- Don K
- Michael, Connie and Heidi K
Pray for Christians in Iraq (christianresponse.org) Iraqi Christians asked us to pray for the town of Bartella, a predominantly Christian town in the Nineveh Plains, east of Mosul, where Christian communities are facing growing intimidation and threats from ethnically Shabak militias. Bartella was among the towns from which thousands of Christians were forced to flee in August 2014 as Daesh (Islamic State) violently seized control of the area. In late 2016 the area was ‘liberated’ from Daesh control. While some towns have seen significant numbers of Christian returnees, comparatively few have returned to Bartella due to ongoing security fears. Iraqi Christians request prayer that:
- Christian leaders in Iraq will know the Lord’s wisdom and guidance in the face of these threats
- Iraqi Christians will stand strong and maintain Christ-like witness, and know the Lord’s protection and peace
- the Iraqi authorities’ efforts to implement the rule of law will succeed, and that perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice
- Iraqi society will become more tolerant, that intimidation and exploitation of Chris tians would cease, and that Christians would have confidence to return to Bartella and nearby towns.
- all who resort to violence and threats would be transformed the power and love of God.
MISSIONAL MARKER
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Intentional Evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20)
- We are burdened for the spiritual condition of those who do not yet know Christ.
- We have identifiable pathways for evangelism to take place in our ministries.
- Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to build spiritual friendships and know how to share their faith as God-‐birthed opportunities arise.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sunday School Teacher Sign-up: Would you be willing to teach children’s Sunday school for a 3-wk session? Or several 3-wk sessions? Please check for available dates and add your name to the list on the clipboard in the foyer. Contact Diane Button with any questions about teaching.
Church Picnic/Potluck: Hospitality Team is planning a church picnic/potluck for Sept. 8 at Birch Bay State Park following the morning service; however, if the weather is not suitable the potluck will be at church. This will take place of the usual 5th Sunday potluck. The state park parking pass is required, which may be purchased at the park for a fee of $10 (cash or check). Carpooling is suggested and we hope that everyone will join us.
Safe Church Policy Training: Training will be today after the worship service. Everyone is welcome to attend, but we especially need to see those who serve as a leader for a HICC ministry: council members, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, Friendship Mentors, GEMS, small group leaders, transportation providers, etc. This time will be used to go over our Safe Church Policy, answer questions, and sign documents required for the yearly background checks.
Holiday Bazaar: Terry V would like to put together a team to discuss and possibly plan this year’s Holiday Bazaar. She is looking for input as to whether or not we should host a bazaar or is it time to walk away from it. Please contact Terry to volunteer to be on a team or to express your thoughts about the bazaar.
HIC Craft Camp: This year crafting will be divided into two groups: Mon. & Tues. Aug 19 & 20 from 10-4, grades 7-12 and beyond; Wed. and Thurs. August 21 & 22 from 10-4 for grades 1-6. Join the craft camp for fun activities and time with friends. Bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks are provided. Adult helpers are welcome to join us. Call or email Darlys to reserve your spot.
