Welcome to Hope in Christ Church! We are so glad you have joined us today.  After the service, we invite you to stay for refreshments and fellowship. Sunday School begins at 11:00 for adults and children. There are various small groups that meet during the week. You are welcome to visit and find one that is right for you!

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Elaine B
  • Philip B
  • Del & Pat B
  • Helen B
  • Alice B
  • Yvonne B
  • Bill B

Pray for the Church in Iran (January 23, ChristianResponse.org): Iranian Christians request prayer after Christian convert Ismaeil Maghrebinejad received a three-year prison sentence for “insulting Islamic sacred beliefs.” Ismaeil (65) was arrested in Shiraz on 25 January 2019 and charged initially with “propaganda against the state and insulting the sacred Iranian establishment.” At the most recent hearing on 8 January 2020, a new judge repeated many of the questions that had been asked previously, focusing on the charge of “insulting Islamic sacred beliefs in cyberspace.” This was because Ismaeil had forwarded a message sent to his phone that was deemed to be insulting to the ruling Iranian clerics. Found guilty, Ismaeil was sentenced to three years in prison under Article 513 of the Islamic Penal Code.

Iranian Christians are disappointed at the harshness of a sentence that is clearly directed against Ismaeil’s Christian faith and request prayer that…

  1. God will strengthen and encourage Ismaeil during the judicial proceedings and enable him and his lawyer to make a strong defense.
  2. the three-year prison sentence will be successfully appealed.
  3. the charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and “membership of a group hostile to the regime” will be dropped.
  4. Iranian authorities will uphold the rights of religious minorities and that Christian converts will not be persecuted.

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: COMPELLING CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY  (Acts 2:42-47)

  1. We understand that our love for one another is a powerful testimony to the deity of Jesus.
  2. We love each other as we are, not as we should be.
  3. We share life together beyond the worship service.

Pastor Brian MacSwan of Legacy Church will be preaching next Sunday, February 2nd. His sermon is titled, “Living as Witnesses to the Reality of Christ,” and the main text is Acts 1:6-11. The adult Sunday school class will be watching and discussing Session 3 of “Before Amen.”

Reserve the date:  A movie night is being planned for Friday, February 28th.  Please mark your calendar and check future bulletins for the time and movie title.

Adult Sunday School: We are pleased to have visiting missionaries speaking as our guests today. “Before Amen” sessions 3 and 4 will be on February 2 and 9.

Interfaith Hope Auction: Interfaith Coalition’s Hope Auction happens on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The auction will take place at the Four Points by Sheraton. Tickets are $70 each, including dinner. Interfaith Coalition makes a difference in the lives of homeless children and their families, and with your support, will be serving additional families through their new program, Family Promise. A father whose family stayed in Interfaith emergency housing shared his appreciation, “We want to thank Interfaith for giving me and my family a safe place to call home.  It was a life changing experience. It took us out of our darkest moments and showed us the light of people who care.” To donate an auction item and/or purchase tickets, please contact Interfaith Coalition at 360-734-3983 or through the website: www.interfaith-coalition.org
