Identities Matter

Paul’s Identity – What God set him apart to do (Col 1:1)

      1. Paul is the imprisoned author of the letter (Col 4:3)
      2. His Work assigned by Christ
        1. What is an apostle? (Mk 3:14, Act 1:22, 2:43, 4:33, 15:2, Eph 4:11-13)
        2. Paul’s identity is wrapped up in his work, as God has assigned it.

Timothy’s Identity – A Familial identity

      1. Timothy was a young man who worked with Paul (Act 16:1, 2Tim 1:5, Phil 2;20-22, 1Tim 1:2, 2Tim 1:2)
      2. The Family connection

The Colossians’ Identity – The response to Jesus & God’s response to them (Col 1:2)

      1. Saints & Faithful brothers
      2. Saints are holy people
      3. Faithful brothers
      4. Recipients of Grace from God, our Father
      5. Recipients of Peace from God our Father

Our Identity

      1. What God has assigned us to do
        1. We are all called to be evangelical – to share the good news with others. (Col 4:6)
        2. We encourage one another (Rom 1:12)
        3. We are all called to pray (Col 4:2)
        4. We battle against sin, the world, and the devil (Eph 6:12)
      2. Our relationship with one another
      3. Our relationship with Christ

What you believe affects what you do.
