New Year’s Resolutions

Choosing Dependence upon God in the sacrificial System (Lev 22:17-25; 1:10; 3:1; 4:3, 27-28; 5:15)

      1. Every time a sacrifice is made, the best animals are offered
      2. Only in dependence upon God can one expect to preserve a herd that will continue to produce healthy, perfect animals.

Other Biblical Examples:

      1. Abraham and sacrifice of Isaac (Gen 22,12; Heb 11:17-19)
      2. Gideon (Judg 7:4-6)
      3. Crossing Jordan River (Josh 3;8, 13)
      4. Ruth 1
      5. David and Goliath (1Sam 17)
      6. Daniel and the test of Diet (Dan 1)
      7. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Dan 3)
      8. Virgin Mary (Lk 1:26-38)
      9. Paul and missionary travels (2Cor 11:23-27)

The Gospel: Jesus chose dependence over comfort (Phil 2:6-8)

      1. Jesus in his temptation (Luke 4:1-4)
      2. The Incarnation (Phil 2:6-8)

Will you choose Dependence and discomfort over independence?

      1. Ask this question at every stage and walk of life, especially when facing a decision
        1. Which trajectory/decision will lead me to greater dependence and trust in God?
        2. What thing will I most assuredly fail at unless God shows up?
      2. Will you commit to this kind of New Year’s Resolution for 2023?
