One of my Great Failures

Context of Job

        1. Job is a story of one man’s intense suffering and loss
        2. The book opens up with a description of Job (Job 1:1-5)
        3. But then God allows Satan to test Job (Job 1:6-2:10)
        4. Monologues
          1. Job begins by lamenting his birth (Job 3)
          2. Eliphaz, Job’s friend, responds (Job 5:17)
          3. Job’s response (Job 6:2-4, 10)
            1. Job charges them with withholding kindness from a friend (Job 6:14)
            2. Job calls then treacherous/dangerous (Job 6:15-17)
            3. Job shames his friends (Job 6:18-20)

Failure and Disappointment are another aspect of shame.

What does the Gospel say to this kind of shame?

        1. Success is not the solution to failure
        2. God’s desire for those who failed is our hope (Isa 54:1-6)
        3. The smile of God for the failed is our hope (Num 6:24-26)
        4. Tell God about your failures so he can heal you (1Jn 1:9)
        5. God alone is successful, rest in him.
