This world belongs to God

        1. God owns it all.
          1. The Contemporary Testimony and Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 1.
          2. These doctrine helps one understand many hard verses of Scripture (Josh 6:21)
          3. Do we believe God owns it all? (Job 1:21, Mt 12:34)
          4. How does this relate to Joshua 6? (Josh 6:1-2)
          5. So if God owns it all, what does that make us? STEWARDS.
            1. We have always been stewards (Gen 2:15, Lk 12:42, 16:1ff, Mt 25:15ff)
            2. Bad Stewardship brings about reallocation of resource and loss of position.
        2. Application: Take a few minutes each day and reflect upon a different thing that God has placed under your stewardship.
          1. Are you viewing it as his?
          2. Does your language reflect that it is his?
          3. Are you using it for his purposes and glory? Or are you using it for your purposes and leisure?

Stewardship and victory come through obeying the Lord

        1. Unorthodox military plans and other examples in Scripture (Josh 6:3-5, Judg 7, Gen 6)
          1. Stewardship implies that one must obey the Owner even if they don’t understand the owners reasons or plan.
        2. What if Israel had done it their way instead of God’s way?
        3. The curse for disobedience (Josh 6:26, 1Ki 16:34)
        4. Christ as the obedient Victor

Devoting Jericho to Destruction

        1. Why kill everything?
          1. The Amorites sin had matured. (Gen 15:16)
          2. Jericho was the firstfruit offering to God.
          3. So that the faithful are not ensnared. (Dt 20:16-18)
        2. So where are the places in your life that you are trying to mix the world or the flesh with the divine and the spiritual things of God?

Victory through worshipping the Lord

        1. Worship Imagery
          1. The passage is loaded with worship imagery. (Josh 6:4-5, 17)
          2. The Jubilee Connection (Lev 25)
          3. Encircling something in Worship is the route to Victory.
        2. Worship brings Victory because Worship is the fulfillment of the First and Greatest Commandment (Mt 22:37-38)
          1. What was the Promised Land to be but a place of worshipful living?
        3. Why do we try to fight by other means?

Will we walk by Faith as Rahab did believing that it all belongs to God and we are to join in worshipping and obeying the Lord we reigns and distributes this world as he chooses?
