Isn’t it great when people recognize our faithfulness?

The Eastern Tribes Return Home (Josh 22:1-9)

1. 1. 1. 1. Lauded for their faithfulness in 4 areas (Josh 22:2-3, Mt 25:23)
            1. Kept the commands of Moses (Num 32:20-22, Josh 4:12)
            2. Obeyed Joshua’s voice
            3. Not forsaken brothers (Dt 29:24-25)
            4. Kept the charge of the Lord your God
         2. Rest has come as a result (Josh 22:4)
         3. Charge: Keep loving God and walking in his ways (Josh 22:5)
            1. There is only 1 command: Love the Lord
            2. How do we Love God?
               1. Walk in his ways and keep his commandments (Jn 14:15)
               2. Cling to him
               3. Serve him with all your heart and soul
         4. Blessing (Josh 22:6, Num 6:24-26)

Transition: Sometimes our obedience is misunderstood by others

Altar called Witness (Josh 22:10-34)

1. 1. 1. 1. They built an Altar in Gilead (Josh 22:10)
         2. Israel jumps to conclusions (Josh 22:12, 16-18)
         3. The Truth of the Matter (Josh 22:22-29)
            1. We aren’t rebellious (Josh 22:22-23)
            2. We didn’t want our children to become idolaters (Josh 22:25)
         4. They named the altar “Witness” (Josh 22:34)

The Gospel

            1. Faithful to God (Heb 2:17, Mt 4, Lk 22:42)
            2. Faithful to the Covenant of Works (Mt 4, Rom 5:19, Heb 2:18, 4:15)
         2. Jesus’ faithfulness brought rest to his people (Heb 4, Rev 14:13)
         3. Jesus gave us signs to witness to our access to God (Mt 26, Rom 6:4, Col 2:12, 1Pet 3:21)
