Sermon Outline

Prayer isn’t easy

    1. Sometimes it involves pain and deep emotion (Heb 5:7)
      1. 2 words used for praying:
        1. prayers: (Acts 1:16, 2Cor 1:11)
        2. supplication:
      2. 2 strong emotions:
        1. loud cries: (Lk 1:42, Ex 11:6)
        2. Tears
      3. Jesus wasn’t a stoic! (Mt 26:42, 27:46, Mk 14:34)
      4. What does this all mean? (Heb 5:7)
    2. Sometimes it involves suffering (Heb 5:8)
    3. Sometimes it appears to be unanswered (Heb 5:7-8)
      1. Prayer doesn’t guarantee that the suffering will be eliminated!
      2. That is a difficult thing to reconcile with other passages of scripture (Jn 14:14, Mt 7:7, Lk 18:1-8)

 But

    1. Prayer is worship (Heb 5:7, Lk 23:34)
    2. Prayer is our connection to God (Jn 8:38)
    3. Prayer strengthens us to persevere and trust in God (Lk 22:42, HC 28)

All of this in Jesus’ life led to him becoming (Heb 5:8-9, 12:1-3)

    1. Obedient
    2. Perfect
    3. Source of eternal salvation (Acts 4:12)
