Living Lights – POHFW

Living Lights – Preparing our Hearts to Worship

tealight-258539_1280In an effort to help you prepare for the May 29nd, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on Living as Light in a World of Darkness, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “Living Lights”. The main Scripture for the day is Ephesians 5:8-20. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Ephesians 5:8-20, Isaiah 49:6, John 8:12.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

(This week we are having a baptism, so the Creeds will reference this in order to encourage and remind all of us of the wonder of baptism.)

Heidelberg Catechism Q69-71

Westminster Larger Catechism Q167

Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 28

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

Let your light so shine: Lyrics, Video

Here I am to worship: Lyrics, Video

You are the light (Fee): Lyrics, Video

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

When in your life do you most often need a light to help you?

Are there situations in life that mimic the need for a flashlight, but which the light of God’s word would aid you?

Who are the people in darkness to whom you can be light?

How might you be light this week?

The Sermon will be available online on May 29, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
