The Burnt Offering and the Christian- Preparing our Hearts to Worship

The Burnt Offering and the Christian- Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the June 5th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on how the Old Testament Sacrifices pointed to Christ, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “The Burnt Offering and the Christian”. The main Scripture for the day is Leviticus 1 & 6:8-18. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Leviticus 1, 6:8-18, Hebrews 10, Romans 12:1, Galatians 3:24.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Heidelberg Catechism Questions 43, 56, 60

Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 8

Belgic Confession Article 25

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

How would taking the life of an animal each time you sinned affect the amount of diligence you exercised living a holy life?

How can we offer ourselves completely to God in service, not that Christ is our sacrifice?

Read and reflect on Got Questions Article, “What is a burnt offering?”

Read and reflect on Ligonier’s Devotional, “The Burnt Offering”

The Sermon will be available online on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 12:30.
