Renewing the Covenant and the call for Faith

        1. Narrator’s insight (Josh 5:1)
          1. The Jews didn’t have the Narrator’s insight
          2. They knew what the 2 spies had heard from Rahab (Josh 2:9)
        2. Call to Faith: Circumcision (Josh 5:2)
          1. The Act of Faith
            1. They have God’s promises and a miracle
            2. The call to trust God completely.
          2. Why weren’t they circumcised? (Josh 5:4-7)
            1. The generation before them was disobedient, stiff-necked, and rebellious ( Ex 32:9, Dt 31:27)
            2. But God has an amazing plan –
          3. Why was it important now? (Josh 5:10)
            1. Where are they standing? What are the stipulations? (Gen 17:7-14)
            2. What does Passover require? (Josh 5:10, Ex 12:48)
            3. What does this teach us:
              1. Inheriting the covenantal promises comes via submission to God and only one person has done that (2Cor 1:20)
                1. When we listen to Christ, we participate in these promises (John 10:27)
              2. How do we know we believe?
                1. One believes by worship and repentance!
              3. Celebration of the Passover (Josh 5:10)
              4. Proof they are heirs (Josh 5:11-12)

The real circumcision needed to enter the Promised Land

        1. The Promised New Jerusalem (Rom 2:28-29, Col 2:10-11)
        2. Christ’s sacrifice (John 1:29)
          1. We are called to worship and trust God, repent and believe.
        3. The place of baptism and Profession of Faith
          1. So young people, you are being called to make your profession of faith.
          2. Those who have already made profession, keep living in faith
