Faith

        1. Faith is more than words (Heb 11:31, Jam 2:25, Matt 1:5-6)
        2. The setting
          1. Joshua sends spies into the Promised Land (Josh 2:1, Num 13:1-2, 30)
          2. A Prostitutes House
            1. Arguments in favor of her Currently being a Prostitute
            2. Arguments against her being a current prostitute (Prov 31:13)
          3. The King of Jericho learns of the spies presence in his city (Josh 2:2-3)
          4. The twist (Josh 2:4)
            1. First – Why did she hide the spies?
            2. Second – Is the lie she told okay?

Faith aligns itself with God’s plans and God’s people

        1. To deal with the first Question – Why did she hide the spies? (Josh 2:9)
          1. FAITH ALIGNS ITSELF WITH GOD’S PLANS & GOD’S PEOPLE
          2. Application: We too must recognize the enemies of God and God’s plans and refuse to be aligned with them.
        2. Second, are the lies Rahab told okay? (Josh 2:5, Matt 5:37, Eph 4:15)
          1. Application: Be thoughtful about how to respond to situations like hiding spies so that we can remain faithful to God’s love of righteousness and hatred of sin.

Faith trustingly waits for God’s rescue

        1. Rahab’s covenant with the spies (Josh 2:10-13)
          1. She asks for a sign (Ex 12:13, Gen 4:15, 9:12, 17:11)
        2. The Spies response (Josh 2:14, 18)
          1. We will deal Gracefully and Truthfully
        3. The Rest of the Story: Patiently waiting for rescue (Josh 6:22-25)
