Renewing the Covenant and the call for Faith
-
-
-
- Narrator’s insight (Josh 5:1)
- The Jews didn’t have the Narrator’s insight
- They knew what the 2 spies had heard from Rahab (Josh 2:9)
- Call to Faith: Circumcision (Josh 5:2)
- The Act of Faith
- They have God’s promises and a miracle
- The call to trust God completely.
- Why weren’t they circumcised? (Josh 5:4-7)
- The generation before them was disobedient, stiff-necked, and rebellious ( Ex 32:9, Dt 31:27)
- But God has an amazing plan –
- Why was it important now? (Josh 5:10)
- Where are they standing? What are the stipulations? (Gen 17:7-14)
- What does Passover require? (Josh 5:10, Ex 12:48)
- What does this teach us:
- Inheriting the covenantal promises comes via submission to God and only one person has done that (2Cor 1:20)
- When we listen to Christ, we participate in these promises (John 10:27)
- How do we know we believe?
- One believes by worship and repentance!
- Celebration of the Passover (Josh 5:10)
- Proof they are heirs (Josh 5:11-12)
- Inheriting the covenantal promises comes via submission to God and only one person has done that (2Cor 1:20)
- The Act of Faith
- Narrator’s insight (Josh 5:1)
-
-
The real circumcision needed to enter the Promised Land
-
-
-
- The Promised New Jerusalem (Rom 2:28-29, Col 2:10-11)
- Christ’s sacrifice (John 1:29)
- We are called to worship and trust God, repent and believe.
- The place of baptism and Profession of Faith
- So young people, you are being called to make your profession of faith.
- Those who have already made profession, keep living in faith
