What is Freedom?

The TempTation to Judge and Condemn others (Col 2:16)

        1. Therefore (Col 2:13-15)
        2. Let no one pass judgment on you
          1. Not talking about deciding after the facts are considered.
          2. Think Peer Pressure and 2nd Class Citizens
          3. External Religious practices
            1. Food (Mt 15:17-18, Acts 10:9-16)
            2. Special times and Seasons is another way. (Ex 23:14-16).
            3. New Moons (1Sam 20:5, 1Chr 23:31, 2Chr 2:4, Ezra 3:5, 10:33, Isa 1:14)
            4. Sabbaths (Ex 20:8-11)
        3. Why are these things irrelevant? (Col 2:17)
          1. Shadows and Signposts point to the Real Things
          2. Jesus is the real thing (Jn 1:29, Lk 22:7-23, Heb 3:7-4:10, Jn 1:5, Rev 21:23-24, Jn 6:35, 10:7, 9, 14:6)

The danger of disqualification (Col 2:18)

        1. There are things one can legitimately judge and condemn (1Cor 5, Eph 4:28, 1Tim 5:3-16)
        2. Slippery Slopes (Col 2:19, 1:18)
        3. This entire argument Paul repeats a second time in v.20-23
        4. All these things look wise but aren’t (Col 2:23)

Application: What rules have you made for yourselves or others that impinge upon freedom in Christ?
