Introduction to Trust

Trust is not Laziness

          1. An encouragement to grow up and mature in the faith (Heb 6:12)
          2. What are God’s promises to us? (Heb 4:1, 9:15, Gal 5:1, Tit 1:2, 1Jn 2:25, Jam 1:12, Acts 1:4, 2:33, Jn 24:49, 2Cor 6:16-18, 2Pet 3:13)
          3. God has made promises to us and we are actively believe them.

          1. Promises, Swearing and oaths
            1. Promises are words that assure someone that you are going to do something.
            2. Swearing/Oaths are appeals/declarations that one’s words are trustworthy and true.
          2. 1 Promise but many parts
          3. Waited patiently

We can trust God’s promises

          1. We have many things to aid us in trusting
            1. Like Abraham, we have the Promises of God and his oath
            2. But we also have Abraham’s story along with many other stories of God fulfilling his promises
            3. All of these confirm to us the veracity and truth of the Father’s words and promises.
          2. God’s Promises are Anchors (Heb 6:19a)
          3. God’s Promises assure of of winning (Heb 6:19b-20a, 2Cor 1:20, 7:1)
          4. God’s Promises are connected to a new and better priesthood (Heb 6:20b)

So what?

          1. What does all of this practically mean for us?
            1. The promises of God are not just well wishing, hopeful accolades that may or may not occur.
            2. Practicing sabbath
            3. Ask yourself some simple questions about the promises of God.
              1. Which promises do I find hardest to believe and trust?
              2. Why is it so hard for me to believe and trust this?
              3. What steps can I take to imitate the faith of those who do believe in this promise?
          2. Conclusion
