Sermon outline
- Last Words
- If you knew that you were going to die, What would you do and/or say during these final moments?
- Jesus prays! (Jn 17:1)
- Prayer and Worship as one’s final act in life
- This is abnormal even in Scripture (Heb 11:21, 2Ki 20:1-5)
- Jesus’ act stands out.
- What it means:
- Prayer is important and should be prioritized
- Jesus prays throughout the scriptures
- The Gospel of John doesn’t highlight this aspect of Jesus’ life much (Jn 6:11, 11:41-42, 17:1ff).
- The other gospels round out this (Mt 6, 14:23, 26:26-43, Mk 9:29, Lk 3:21-22, 5:16, 6:12, 9:18, 10:21, 11:2, 22:17, 22:32)
- A shameless plug
- Jesus prays throughout the scriptures
- Prayer is Edifying
- What is Edification
- Why would I say that prayer is edifying? (Eph 4:12)
- One Final note (Jn 16:33, Mk 11:24)
- So how can we develop the same victorious certainty in our prayer life that Jesus had?
- Why was Jesus certain?
- He knew the character of his Father
- He knew that he was holy and therefore acceptable to God
- Grow in your understanding and experience of the character of God
- Through Scripture study you can see the character of God
- Through Theological books like
- By keeping a Journal
- Understand your status as a child of God (Rom 8:15)
- Understand your status as holy in Christ (Eph 1:4)
- Why was Jesus certain?
