Introduction: Dt. is a practical commentary on how to live out the 10 commandments

The First and Greatest Commandment (Mt 22:37)

1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. Why does Jesus call this the first and greatest Commandment? (Dt 6:1)
                  1. The Commandment – singlular, not plural – that Moses was to teach the people of God was to love God.
                     1. The love of God leads to life. (Dt 6:3)
                     2. The love of God leads to loving others.
                     3. The love of God is related to the fear of God (Dt 6:1-2)
                     4. The Love of God is the key to the generational preservation of faith (Dt 6:2, 7, 11:19)
                     5. The love of God is the key to righteousness and holiness.
                  2. There are no other God – The Shema (Dt 6:4, 5:7)
               2. Loving the ONE GOD affects every area of life (Dt 6:7-9)
               3. Prosperity is a real danger to living out the first commandment (Dt 6:10-13, 8:11-14)
